Women are now distillers, educators, brand owners, mixologists, and bar owners across whiskey, rum, vodka, gin, tequila, and specialty spirit circles.
As the industry becomes more dynamic and diverse, women entrepreneurs drive innovation and evolve the spirit-making methods that have sat unchanged for years. Women-owned distilleries and spirit brands are bringing inventive concepts to market and breaking the boundaries of the spirits industry, all while fostering a sense of community amongst these women entrepreneurs.
As more women push to the forefront, they understand that not only is the space of creators and distillers changing, but so is the consumer. While most spirit brands market more towards men, women are becoming a more extensive consumer base with purchasing power. One study shows that 41.2% of female respondents chose liquor and spirits as their favorite types of alcoholic beverages in 2019. Another study shows that women account for 54.5% of US vodka sales and more than 30% of whiskey sales.
However, the gender disparity in the industry persists. In 2018, women held only 4% of C-suite roles in wine and spirits. But here at Wheyward Spirit and with a number of other incredible women-owned spirit brands, we are challenging that norm and bringing a fresh vision to an ever-evolving consumer base of spirit enthusiasts.
At Wheyward Spirit, we take pride in disrupting the spirits industry as a woman-owned business with an innovative specialty spirit where you can taste a difference and make a difference.
Wheyward Spirit is a versatile base spirit, but we’re far from basic. We’re not a vodka, gin, rum, tequila, or whiskey, but a specialty spirit all of its own — perfect for sipping straight or using in an elevated classic cocktail.
And with a versatile flavor, our spirit is perfect for our diverse consumer base. No matter your gender, age, lifestyle, or location, Wheyward Spirit can be your go-to regardless of how you sip or mix.
And don’t just take it from us — Wheyward Spirit has been awarded a Double Gold medal at the 2021 New York World Wine & Spirits competition, a 2021 Good Food award, and received recognition from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
We are doing things differently for the right reasons, and are proud to be alongside other incredible women in the spirits industry. Alongside Emily Darchuk of Wheyward Spirit, women like Karen Hoskin of Montanya Rum, Carin Luna-Ostaseski of Sia Scotch, and Victoria Eady Butler of Uncle Nearest Whiskey continue to prove that women are the future of innovative and outstanding spirits.
